Real Media Artifact

Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith

The first 1:30 of the film is the intro credits, but after that the actual film starts.
The first scene is the camera tilting, and you catch the glare of the sun as it tilts onto what appears to be a planet with a ship/cruiser orbiting, this establishes where the current scene is taking place, It seems almost peaceful, except there is non-diegetic music playing, which is a slow solid drum beat, which makes the scene feel tense, but also adds a sense of power and dominance because of its scale, constantly making the audience feel the contrast of the calm location and the intimidating ship and music. The camera vertically pans while it tracks the ship as it is moving you hear two fighters before they appear on screen, and as they fly past the music changes into a fast paced, but as well as this the camera also changes and starts tracking the smaller fighters, but the as the camera tracks, as well as following them you feel more immersed in the scene, as the audiences view is like they are also flying behind them, As they fly though the ship you get an idea of scale making you think there might be something bigger happening, Then as the ships fly over the edge with a side tracking camera changing into a birds eye you see the action. The music becomes more intense and you hear a lot of Diegetic SFX sounds which have been added in, the sound of the fighters, the explosions, and gunfire, also there are lots of other fighters which dart across the camera showing the scene as fast paced. The bird’s eye view also shows a vast amount of ships, fighting each other over the surface showing the sheer scale, and how epic the fight is, immediately drawing the audience in. Although the camera is in a bird’s eye view it is still tracking the initial fighters, and the camera then goes back to a very close tracking camera and follows them far closer, but the camera actual does go around the fighters 360 showing you every angle of the fighters, it also weaves in and out of them getting you as close to the battle as they can, additionally showing the battle that is raging on around them. It shows them weaving in and out of turrets avoiding the gunfire, showing the danger and adrenaline, but also shows them then opening fire, causing a huge explosion, which is where instead of following them underneath the explosion the camera goes straight through it, bringing you into the action more, and showing you the intensity of the battle. As well as doing this it also blinds the audience from the next scene, as the camera then opens out onto another large wide angle scene showing a huge fight happening, and more SFX, The camera stops following the two fighters briefly as it focuses on a large cruiser in a skirmish with another, you hear the power of the weaponry in the SFX, and the explosions and to the realism and help intensify the cataclysmic damage. The camera is still moving along with the fighters even though they are not on screen, but eventually they drop back into the shot, and the camera gets close up while the fighters are steady, showing the characters and starting the dialogue and story.
